Tallinn Sightseeing...

Breakfast at the hotel this morning was a buffet. Not many options, though. We had a tour of the city today. Our city guide was Eerol. We walked the old part of town which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It dates back to the 12th century and is one of the best preserved medieval towns in Europe. We saw them excavating old city wall they found when they were attempting to build a new structure. The old part of town was almost a maze. We saw several churches and a castle.

We invited Eerol to eat lunch with us. We had blinis again, but this time we went a little crazy. We had them with honey, bananas, ice cream and chocolate syrup. Yummmm. Then, we went looking in shops. But it didn't stop there. We had dessert at a place called Josephine's which consisted of extremely decedent chocolate cake and lattes.

We went back to the hotel where John got a massage and Cecily took a nap. We had dinner at a medieval restaurant. The food started with bread with various things to eat with it - cheese, olives, tongue (gross), horseradish, berries and saffron. We then had a backed cheese course. The main consisted of chicken and pork with side dishes or turnips, barley, lentils and sauerkraut. Dessert was a cheesecake like baked custard with saffron cream on top. The food was very good, but it was very hot in the restaurant. We turned in for the night after that.
